Custom Enterprise Web Solution
01 — Overview
An enterprise client needed a fully custom web application to manage complex business operations that couldn't be adequately handled by off-the-shelf solutions. The system required complete control over data, workflows, and user permissions.
02 — The Challenge
Existing SaaS tools were too rigid and couldn't accommodate the client's unique business processes. Data sovereignty requirements meant the solution needed to be self-hosted with full admin control. The system needed to handle thousands of concurrent users while maintaining performance.
03 — Research
I conducted a thorough audit of the client's existing workflows, documenting 32 distinct business processes. I interviewed 12 stakeholders across 4 departments to understand requirements and pain points. Technical constraints were mapped, including data privacy regulations and infrastructure limitations.
04 — UX Process
I designed the information architecture around the client's actual job roles, not their organisational chart. Wireframes were created for every user role — admin, manager, operator, and viewer. The admin portal went through 6 iterations as we refined the permission system and data management workflows.
05 — UI Design
The frontend uses a clean, professional design system with consistent components across all modules. The admin portal features a sidebar navigation with contextual menus, data tables with inline editing, and real-time notification systems. Mobile responsiveness was prioritised for field operators.
06 — Testing & Iteration
Load testing with 1,000 concurrent users confirmed performance targets. Usability testing with 8 end users across different roles identified and resolved 15 friction points. Security testing validated the permission system and data isolation.
07 — Final Solution
A custom PHP backend with carefully designed database schema, responsive frontend with modern UI components, and a comprehensive admin portal providing full control over user management, content, system settings, and analytics.
08 — Outcome
100% control over data and system architecture. Page load times under 2 seconds. Admin tasks reduced by 70% through automation. Zero vendor lock-in with fully custom codebase.
09 — What I Learned
This project taught me that enterprise UX is about trust and control. Users need to feel confident that the system handles their data correctly. I learned to design interfaces that make complex operations feel simple without hiding the complexity.
